Pafana Brazed Turning Tools — ISO 1 to ISO 13 Geometry
Pafana brazed turning tools cover the complete ISO 5608 / DIN 4953 / 4954 designation series — from the ISO 1 straight roughing tool through ISO 6 side / facing tools, ISO 7 parting blades, ISO 9 internal boring tools, and the ISO 12 / 13 finishing and form-turning geometries. Each tool is forged from a hardened tool-steel shank with a sintered tungsten-carbide cutting insert silver-brazed to the tip, giving the rigidity and shock resistance of a one-piece tool with the cutting performance of carbide. The brazed format remains the most economical choice for manual lathes, training shops, repair work and short-batch CNC turning where indexable insert holders are over-specified for the task.
Pafana Carbide Grades — P30, P40, M20, K10 Explained
Pafana brazed tools are supplied in P40 as the default workhorse grade — ideal for general-purpose external turning of carbon and alloy steel at moderate speeds with interrupted cuts. P30 is a slightly tougher, finer-grain grade preferred for internal boring (ISO 8/9) where chatter and edge chipping are bigger risks. For stainless steel, austenitic and heat-resistant alloys we can supply M20 grade tips, and for cast iron, bronze and non-ferrous metals we offer K10 / K20 grades on indent. Each grade is tested to ISO 513 application classifications, so you can match the grade letter (P/M/K) directly to your workpiece material group.
Pafana Boring, Threading & Parting Tools — Specialist Geometries
Beyond external turning, the Pafana range includes internal boring bars (ISO 8 & 9) for through-hole and blind-hole enlargement, threading tools (ISO 10 external and ISO 11 internal) for cutting metric, inch UN, BSP, NPT and trapezoidal threads, and parting / cut-off blades (ISO 7) for clean separation of bar stock and groove cutting. All specialist geometries are supplied with the same forged-shank, brazed-carbide-tip construction and can be re-ground multiple times by your toolroom or by Pafana's own re-conditioning service. SAN Tools stocks the most-requested ISO 2, 6, 7, 9, 12 and 13 tools at our Dubai warehouse and brings the rest in on indent within 2–4 weeks.
ISO 5608 Tool Designations & Material-Group Grades
Every Pafana brazed turning tool is forged and ground to the ISO 5608 / DIN 4953 / 4954 designation system, with sintered carbide tips classified to ISO 513 application groups. Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Pafana carbide brazed lathe tools, ISO designations, carbide grades and ordering from SAN Tools.
Are these genuine Pafana Poland brazed lathe tools?
Yes. SAN Tools is the authorised distributor of Pafana carbide brazed lathe tools in the UAE. Every tool ships in original Pafana / Fabryka Narzedzi Pafana S.A. packaging from Pabianice, Poland, with batch traceability and full manufacturer warranty.
What is the ISO 5608 designation system on the part-number?
ISO 5608 is the international standard that classifies brazed turning tools by geometry. The number after "ISO" tells you the tool's purpose: ISO 1 = straight roughing, ISO 2 = bent (45°), ISO 3 = offset, ISO 4 = wide finishing, ISO 5/6 = side / facing tools, ISO 7 = parting, ISO 8/9 = internal boring, ISO 10/11 = external/internal threading, ISO 12 = knife (finishing), ISO 13 = form turning. The R or L suffix indicates right- or left-handed cutting direction. DIN 4953 / 4954 are the equivalent German standards.
What does "P30" or "P40" mean on the carbide tip?
P30 and P40 are sintered tungsten-carbide grades classified to ISO 513. The letter P indicates the application group: P = steel and steel castings (long-chip materials). The number is a wear/toughness scale — lower numbers (P10, P20) are harder and more wear-resistant for finishing; higher numbers (P30, P40) are tougher and more shock-resistant for roughing and interrupted cuts. P40 is the default workhorse Pafana grade for general turning. M = stainless / heat-resistant alloys, K = cast iron / non-ferrous — available on indent.
What's the difference between brazed tools and indexable insert holders?
Brazed turning tools have a sintered carbide tip silver-brazed permanently to a forged steel shank — one-piece tool, ready to use, re-grindable on a tool grinder. Indexable insert holders use replaceable carbide inserts that can be rotated or swapped when an edge wears. Brazed tools are more economical for manual lathes, training shops, repair work and short-batch CNC turning; indexable systems pay off when you're running long production batches and need fast edge-changes. Pafana makes both, but its brazed range is the strongest in the European market.
Can Pafana brazed tools be re-ground?
Yes — that's one of the major advantages of the brazed format. The tungsten-carbide tip is silver-brazed to the shank, so when the cutting edge wears or chips you can re-grind it on a green-grit silicon-carbide grinding wheel and restore the original geometry. A typical brazed tool can be re-ground 10–20 times before the carbide tip is consumed. Pafana also offers a factory re-conditioning and re-grinding service through SAN Tools on indent.
Which Pafana tools are in stock at the Dubai warehouse?
SAN Tools holds the most-requested ISO designations — ISO 2 (bent), ISO 6 (side / facing right-hand), ISO 7 (parting), ISO 9 (internal P30), ISO 12 (knife) and ISO 13 (form) — in P40 grade as default with select P30 stock. Other ISO designations (1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11) and stainless / cast-iron grades (M20, K10, K20) are available on indent within 2–4 weeks. Tap the "Enquire" button on any product card and we'll confirm availability and pricing on WhatsApp.
What shank sizes does Pafana offer?
Standard Pafana brazed turning tool shanks are square cross-section — common sizes are 10×10, 12×12, 16×16, 20×20, 25×25 and 32×32 mm. The shank size you need depends on your lathe's tool post or turret. Smaller manual lathes typically use 10–16 mm shanks; mid-sized CNC lathes use 20–25 mm; larger production lathes use 25–32 mm. Send us your lathe model on WhatsApp and we'll recommend the right shank.
Are right-hand and left-hand tools both available?
Yes. Most ISO designations come in both right-hand (R) and left-hand (L) variants — ISO 2R / 2L, ISO 6R / 6L and so on. Right-hand is the default for conventional lathes that cut towards the chuck on a forward-rotating spindle; left-hand is needed for back-turning, sub-spindle work, and reverse-rotation operations. Pafana stocks both, but R is held in volume at SAN Tools while L is brought in on indent.
What materials can Pafana brazed tools cut?
With P30 / P40 grades (the default) you can cut carbon steel, alloy steel, tool steel, mild steel, free-machining steel, ductile iron, and most steel castings. With M-grade tips you can cut stainless steel (austenitic, ferritic, duplex), Inconel and other heat-resistant superalloys (with reduced speed). With K-grade tips you can cut grey/ductile cast iron, bronze, brass, aluminium and copper. Plastic, fibreglass and composites should use K-grade for chip-flow reasons. Always match the grade letter (P/M/K) to your workpiece material group per ISO 513.
Do you offer volume pricing for OEMs and machine shops?
Yes. SAN Tools offers dedicated distributor pricing for OEMs, manufacturing facilities, training institutes, vocational colleges and high-volume machine shops. Send us your annual usage estimate or BOM on WhatsApp and we'll come back with a tier price and account terms.
What is the typical lead time?
Items shown above and the most common ISO 2/6/7/9/12/13 designations in P40 grade are usually in stock for same-day pickup at our Dubai branch and next-day delivery across the UAE. Special-order Pafana tools (other ISO numbers, M / K grades, custom shank sizes, factory re-conditioning) typically arrive within 2–4 weeks from Pafana Poland.
Where can I get Pafana tools re-ground or re-conditioned?
SAN Tools can send your worn Pafana tools back to Fabryka Narzedzi Pafana S.A.'s factory re-conditioning service for re-brazing and re-grinding to original geometry. Drop your worn tools at any of our three branches (Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman) and we'll batch them for the next outbound shipment. Local re-grinding to a custom profile is also available through our toolroom partners in the UAE.
